Here we go - bday party questions

You'd think I'd have this down pat after 6 parties between the girls so far, but I always think of questions!

- My DD shares her birthday weekend with her cousin.  The cousin's actual bday is Saturday, so we are probably going to have our party on Sunday.  About half the party attendees will be the same at the parties (mutual family).  Is that a bad idea, to ask people to spend their weekend going to kid's parties?  I actually don't really care if people can't make it, because the smaller the better, and I basically have no relationship with those people.  Also my aunt and uncle are driving 3.5 hours to come help out and that's their best weekend to visit.

- Favors - I always do favors for the adults.  Until DD has non-family bday parties that are exclusively other kids, I like to give something to everyone.  In past years I've done nice chocolates, boxes of cookies, etc but I'm thinking of taking a break from the sweets.  I saw nice ceramic flower pots (glazed in lots of nice colors) that were pretty cheap and come with seeds and soil, for pretty cheap.  Is that maybe a nice alternative to candy (for a March bday)?

Re: Here we go - bday party questions

  • 1- I would do your party on the day that's best for you. If you don't care about attendance than don't worry about planning around the cousins party.

2- I often leave favors behind, as an adult I don't want  stuff I have to find a home for. Edible is great because I don't find a place for it at home, except my hips. lol I wouldn't waste money on something like a flowerpot. I don't/won't do favors for adults at a kids party, I didn't do favors for R's second birthday either. Not needed.

  • 1. do what date works best for you. I was having ethan's party the day after his real birthday but my mom couldn't make it so I changed it.

    2. I only do favors for the kids.  I wouldn't expect a favor from a kid's party if I was invited.

  • 1- always tough when there are kids born around the same time but I agree with PP- if the people you most care about can make it on the same weekend- then plan it for then (and honestly, if it were me- I might have it on the same day because saturday parties give you a day to re-coup )

2- favors for adults? nice thought but dont put yourself out...I wouldnt. I do favors for the kids and even then- they dont need it

  • Do what dates work best for you!

Favors for adults at kids birthday parties are unnecessary. I think favors for the kids will be plenty! :)
