'biting' nipple

ETA: I usually scroll at least a little bit before asking a question. obviously I did not this time!

I say 'biting' in quotations because there aren't any teeth yet.

So my LO likes to clamp down on my nipple occasionally, and it hurts. I can deal with it now, but I'd really like to break him of this habit before teeth come in. I'm not exactly sure how to do this. When I react with an 'ouch' he laughs - so that's probably not a good idea. And the word 'no' means nothing to him yet. Obviously I can't pull away for my own good.

Anyone have ideas??

Re: 'biting' nipple

  • Say "no" every time & get him off the boob, eventually he'll learn "no".  To get him off, the easiest/fastest thing to do is squish his face into the boob, he'll let go in order to get air.  Then make him stay off for a minute or two so that he starts to associate biting/clamping with no more nursing.
