Ok, DD and I had a great BF experience while we were in the hospital but once discharged and sent home things went south quick. She was losing lots of weight my supply wasn't so hot & she just cried all the time.
Lactation nurse had me pumping and bottle feeding and working on our latch. Her weight went back up & that was great. She was back at birth weight by day 10 and did finally latch at about 6 weeks.
I had to start to supplement though b/c my supply was just never that great. Once going back to work it got that much harder and LO was getting more and more formula during the day.
I nursed all through xmas & New Years break & supplemented with a bottle after each feeding. Once back at work we started to wean b/c she was on mostly formula all day anyway. This is my 3rd week not offer her the breast at all and not pumping.
After reading the B6 post and researching on Kelly Moms I have a strong feeling it wasn't my body. I wanted to EBF for a year and was devestated when that wasn't going to happen and struggled making the decision to wean my LO. DH was a great support during this time for me. I tried it all Domperidone, Mothers milk tea, fenugreek and oatmeal and nothing seemed to help. It makes total sense now since the B6 I was taking was counter acting it all. I really feel it was the B6 looking back it all makes sense. I didn't take any of my vitamens the 4 days in the hospital and once getting home I started them again & that is when the trouble started.
I guess what I want to know is: Is it too late to try and BF again? I am assuming that it is but DH said I should at least look into it since it meant so much to me. I do have a call into out lactation nurse but I haven't gotten a call back yet.
Am I selfish to want and try after 3 weeks to pick it back up and drop the B6 and see what happens?
Thanks Ladies.
Re: Starting after weaning possible? - Long
It's called "relactation" and it is possible. It's not easy - and definitely not selfish! How could something you've worked so hard at be selfish?

And remember - any amount of breastmilk has benefits. Especially in cold and flu season - those antibodies from you are so good for her. You don't have to be 100% breastfeeding or 100% formula feeding; if a mix works for you, it's okay to do that.
