Oatmeal, does it really help?

I'm not technically having supply issues according to kellymom.com, but I've noticed a little dip.  I've been reading that oatmeal can help.  Does anyone have experience with it helping?

Also, any good recipes for yummy oatmeal?

Re: Oatmeal, does it really help?

  • I notice a difference. I eat it every morning. I put brown sugar and chopped walnuts in it. With DD1, if I had a dip in supply, I'd make oatmeal cookies too and would see an increase in my supply within 24 hours.

Glad you posted this.  I was wondering the same.  Also, does it have to be a certain kind of oatmeal?  Does just the quick one minute kind work?  I've heard some say it must be steel cut oats?  If so, where do you find these?

  • I *think* I notice it helping.  I try to eat whole oats in the am as many days as possible.  I don't think instant has the same impact, has to be the whole oats.  I haven't tried the lactation or even just any kind of oatmeal cookie but I plan to try since it isn't always easy to make the am oats.
  • I have noticed that it helps. I do bobs red mill gluten and lactose free since I'm on an mspi/gluten/sugar free diet. Typically I add in apples, dried cranberries and almonds (when I can eat fruit that is), sometime a little maple sugar

  • I've had an oatmeal addiction since DS was born. I do think it helps. He's a ravenous eater and I really haven't ever had problems, minus initial start up, thank goodness! I strongly recommend Quaker weight smart. I eat it because their maple brown sugar is AMAZING! And I of course add extra brown sugar, and sometimes some pecans. Yummm :)

  • If you have a slow-cooker, you can try making slow-cooker oatmeal!

I haven't tried it yet, but i'm anxious about trying the pumpkin-coffeecake flavored one...mmm...

She says "steel-cut Oatmeal", but the tall cans of "Quaker Original" rolled oats work just as well... just no "instant"!!

  • I'm not even breastfeeding yet but lurk on the board and saw this post.. thought I would share the recipe I just made this morning... delicious!!!
