3rd Trimester

How are you dealing with pets right now?

I feel like the closer I get the more obsessed I am with our Mr. Skweekz... I don't know what is wrong with me! I know your suposed to spend less time/attention so they are  not totally pissed off when the baby gets here but I am more obsessed with him then ever and cannot ignore him!

Re: How are you dealing with pets right now?

  • My bunny is getting a lot of extra attention and treats right now. But he was already pretty spoiled so I'm not sure it's possible to make it any worse...

  • our cat is always attached to one of us, so it's hard not giving her attention.  plus i just love how soft, warm and cuddly she is.

  • Our dog is crate trained, so we have been giving her some more crate time when we are in the room.  She is used to being able to run around and play a lot when we are home, so we give her some crate time when we are home so she is used to it when Bailey gets here.
  • In our childbirth class, we were told that we (but mainly me) should start ignoring our pets and scolding them a few weeks before the baby is born so they get used to not being the center of attention...and there is NO way I could ever do that.  They are still my babies right now and I definitely still treat them that way!!
  • Ooooh, I'm guilty of the same thing!! I feel like I should be getting my dog used to less attention but instead I'm loving on him all the time.  Guess I gotta work on that.....

  • I give our dogs the same amount of attention as I always have. I just can't ignore them, I love them too much!
  • yeah, i noticed i am a lot clingier with our dog. it's like he has become my baby almost!
Mom to 2 beautiful girls, 3 yrs and 22 months old. My 2nd was born at 32 weeks due to Rhogam failure/severe complications from Rh disease and is our miracle. She has bilateral auditory neuropathy and a cochlear implant, activated 4/5/2012 at 19 months. Lilypie First Birthday tickers
  • I have noticed that they (we have 2 boxers) are more affectionate with us!  I don't know how they will adjust to life with the baby....but DH and I are not worried.  I have already talked to some of our friends about coming to take them for special walks when I am home so they feel like they are getting extra attention.

  • I've been feeling extra lovey-dovey towards them too. Must be the?hormones?or something.?

  • I've been giving them tons of attention.  Screw the ignoring them thing.  I love my kitties, and they'll feel ignored no matter when you do it, before or after baby.

  • The only thing we are doing different is not allowing our pup to sleep with us anymore. He gets booted off right before the lights go out.
  • My pups are getting their normal amount of attention.  Except for the fact that since I pulled something in my back on Monday, I haven't been able to walk them Sad
  • my dog has been getting on my nerves lately.  I feel like she's been acting up a lot more these past few weeks.  I have no patience for her anymore...ignoring her before the baby is born won't be a problem.  LOL!
  • My dog has been a royal PITA lately.  I can't stand him half the time so we're getting lots of practice with the ignoring thing.  The cat's life is probably not going to change a heck of a lot so I'm not too worried about her.
  • I have been treating my cats the same, I am paying them both a ton of attention and they are both eating it up.  They are still super curious about the nursery.

  • We haven't treated our pups any different than usual.  They are very curious about the nursery and will occasionally walk in to sniff and check it out. We figure if we act normal and stick to their routine there won't be much upheaval once the baby arrives.

  • I'll say it - my dog is like my first baby.

So just like I won't ignore my son before we have baby #2, I won't be ignoring my dog before her "little brother" comes!

We will have lots of family staying with us for a few weeks after the birth so I'm hoping that will ease her into things.
