Multiples

swelling

Is it normal to start earlier with multiples? One leg is more so than the other but went away (mostly after sleeping on my left side) but is tingly (which I know can be completely normal and could or could not be related to the swelling. I'll call my OB anyway but just curious if it started 20ish weeks with any of you? With DS it wasn't until the end.

Re: swelling

  • My OB was surprised yesterday that I still had slim ankles and was wearing my wedding ring. So in going to say yea, it's expected that we're going to swell earlier.

  • I think it does start earlier. Mine was bad but I was also very pg during one of the hottest summers on record here in TX! Just try to drink lots of water andout your feet up when you can.

  • As a first timer..I stopped wearing my wedding rings around 4 months.  Ankles and feet didn't blow up to stay puft marshmallow feet until 32 weeks.  Dr wasn't surprised they were the plump size they are now:(   Even my Uggs are snug in the bug.

  • I had severe pitting edema starting at 5 wks preggers with my girls and it lasted the whole pregnancy (talk about discomfort!). Went for tests and an early u/s (which is when I found out twins!). No real explanation except that my body was probably extra sensitive to the hormones. So I think more and earlier swelling is common with multiples. Especially since I haven't had any swelling yet in this pregnancy with a singleton. It's always good to talk to your doctor though if you are at all concerned. They'll be able to tell you definitively (as they did in my case) if it is something to worry about or just a common side effect of pregnancy. Keep those feet elevated and drink lots of H20.

  • I'm hoping it's normal... b/c I definitely started WAY earlier than with my previous singleton pregnancies. :)

  • Thanks ladies...they said if it doesn't go away with my feet elevated or there is a big discrepency in size or pain to call otherwise normal. It's crazy how different this pregancy is than with DS.
