I've heard it takes 12 weeks but need to hear real stories. I'm doing everything right, not pumping, trying to feed as many times from one side as possible, reclining...but I'm drowning him. He chokes and milk is spraying all over his face and my clothes, he screams and only feeds for 5 minutes and then wants to again 20 minutes later. He won't take a bottle and has been going on short nursing strikes, then eating on and off for 7 hours straight in the middle of the night. He gained 4lbs in his first month and he started out big.
I don't just have fast letdown, I have fast flow. I can easily pump 10-12 ounces in 5-10 minutes. Admittedly this is a significantly better problem than the almost nonexistant supply I had with DS1, but it's still a problem. I'm feeding around the clock.
Did anyone's oversupply drastically regulate?
Re: If you had oversupply at first, did it regulate?
Yes, baby is 11 weeks and I no longer have issues with him pulling off and sputtering. The only time now is maybe the first morning feed when I'm super full from the longer night stretches. It started getting better around 6-8 weeks.
I only offer one side per feeding and let him stay on as long as he wants.
