Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Best diapers for a long and skinny baby?

At 4.5 mos, DD was 25.5" long (close to 90th percentile) and 13 lbs (25-50th percentile).  She is long and lean - it seems like huggies nor pampers fit well.  She is having problems with blowouts.  Pampers are already an inch below her belly button. Is it time to move up a size? (she is currently in Size 2 based on weight, I think a Size 3 would swallow her).

  • My baby has the same proportionality and I never have problems in her cloth diapers. I wish I had a disposable option to offer as a suggestion but I've never found anything that works like her BumGenius and TotsBots do.

  • My son is 24 1/2 in and almost 12 lbs and we have been using Pampers. Not sure which Pampers you tried but Swaddlers are a little bigger then the Baby Dry and Huggies are just too small on him. We use a size 1 right now and I think once we run out of this last box I'm going to try the Size 2.

  • DS is 26.5 inches and 14 lbs.  We use Pampers Swaddlers.  He occasionally has a blow out but it's usually because the diapers weren't tight enough.  We have to actually cross the tabs in order for them to be snug enough.

  • We use Luvs for our disposables and my son is 80th for ht and 50th for wt. Still in size 2 but about to move to 3.

  • DD1 is 90some% for height and 25% for weight, and has been since she was about 9 months old. DD2 is 12% for weight (11lbs 11 oz) and 40some% for height (24 inches, I think?), so I have a couple skinny ones myself :) We use Targets Up&Up brand for both of them. DD2 is in size 2's. The 2's are a little big, but she was blowing out of 1's because they were too short.

  • DD is 12.12 and 25 1/2 in length and she is still in size 1 diapers. Not having any problems. We are using huggies right now.

  • Could you use the size 3 pampers diapers but fold the top part before clasping the diaper shut? That's what I do with my baby when I'm in between sizes. I also find that she has more blowouts with Huggies than Pampers.
  • My LO is long and skinny too, and Target's Up & Up diapers work best for us. He blows out of Huggies and Pampers. Luvs are good too (I use them at night), but Target's diapers hold more poop.

This. DS was 26" and about 13lbs at his 4 month, and we just switched him to size 2. We still have occasional blowouts, but the Target diapers are the best I've tried so far. Plus they have cute polka dots on them instead of Sesame Street characters or whatever they put on brand name diapers.

  • Let me know what you find out with this I am running into this same problem.  My daughter is 1 and 29' long (25-50th percentile)  and 16 lbs (below 5th percentile).  I haven't found a diaper yet where she dosen't leak.  She is currently in size 2
