Today when we were leaving a friend's house, Will fell and bumped his head on the window sill. I brushed it off when we were leaving because the fall didn't look bad, but he kept complaining about it in the car and I just looked at it closely and he does have a really big goose egg on the back of his head. I can tell that it's definitely bruised through his hair.
What should I do for this? Surprisingly, we're newbies to head bumps - this is his first ever 'bad' one. I don't think it will come to this, but when would you call the pedi? Anything I need to watch for?
Re: Head Bumps
It never hurts to call and see what your pedi says.
The Blog
Generally, head bumps result in nothing more than a purple goose egg (and lots of tears!)
Ben AND Molly are both head bumpers. Lord knows why, though! Anyway, I generally watch for signs of concussion (unusual eye movements or pupils that are unequal in size; a change in the way your child walks or crawls; weakness or confusion; problems with speech, vision, or motor skills; persistent vomiting; or excessive sleepiness).
If it makes you feel better, call his pedi. They'll probably tell you the same things re: concussion and then give you some remedies to make the owie feel better.
Poor kiddo!!
I know, I didn't either! It didn't look bad at all - I just thought he was being a wimp in the car, lol
