hello, just lurking around and wandering if anyone else is experiencing hyperthyroid during pregnancy as opposed to hypothyroid. have been experiencing extreme weakness, dizziness, EXTREME nausea and vomiting, shortness of breath, heart racing and overall feeling crappy. just entered my second trimester but seems like nothing is getting better. currently I'm under the supervision of a specialist but she hasn't yet figured out what to do with me as she's waiting on more test results. really frustrated as I haven't been able to leave the house for 3 months
if you experienced the same please send some advice, thanks ![]()
Re: overactive thyroid during pregnancy
The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new.
I have/had Grave's Disease. so I know what you are talking about.
I also had it during my 2nd pregnancy/child
Are you sure your symptoms of extreme weakness, dizziness, EXTREME nausea and vomiting, shortness of breath, heart racing and overall feeling crappy are from the thyroid. I find when they know you have thyroid issues they blame the thyroid for EVERYTHING!
I was put on tapezole (sp?) while pregnant - although not safe while pregnant but I was on it - then after I had my ds I got my thyroid burnt out with the radio active iodine. maybe talk to you your OBGYN about this too.
some of your symptoms sounds associated with pregnancy dizziness, nausea, vomitting and feeling crappy sounds liek pregnancy related. Not thyroid.
I have Grave's Disease as well....it should not take them long to get your bloodwork back to figure out if it is your thyroid, no more than a week! If it is, you need to get on medication ASAP. They will (should) likely put you on PTU, while not technically safe during pregnancy, it is the "safer" choice between tapazole and PTU.
It can be controlled but must be done soon, it can be unhealthy for you and for your baby. Good luck!
hi ladies, thank you for your replies. sure is reassuring I'm not alone. don't think it's preg related as my initial bld work was off and the OB sent me to a specialist who sent me to do more blood tests as well as an ultrasound of my thyroid. Tuesday I find out what the verdict is. all other blood work seems normal. fingers crossed, can't wait till Tuesday!!!!!
thanks again
