Cloth Diapering

Prefolds users

When did you start using the trifold and just laying it in the cover? Right now I am using the jelly roll since with the trifold and angel fold the covers ended up soiled every time she pooped. DH is very awkward with the folding and snappi,so he has been avoiding diaper duty. LO is around 9.5 lbs, and her legs are still pretty skinny. TIA

Re: Prefolds users

  • We didn't trifold with DD#1 until she had really been established on solids.  Only then did her poop become a consistency that occasionally didn't run off of the prefold.  Even still, it happened.  Maybe around 6-7 months?  DD#2 still poops a ton and it is frequently runny enough to make a huge mess, so we still angelwing fold with a snappi.

  • The other option is to jelly roll and skip the snappi, putting the cover over it and holding it on with the cover.  I haven't actually started yet, but I saw it in a youtube video on PF folds, and she said it works well for her.  Or you could trifold and flare out the back before putting it on LO to contain the poo.

  • I guess we're lucky with DD. We trifolded from the start. She is a very occasional pooper, and it's not very runny or explosive (yet?) even though she's EBF. Trifolding & covers have worked well for us. I do fan out the back of the dipe, but I not use snappis.

  • I did the tri-fold right from the start with DS.  However, we ended up starting w/ premie-size prefolds and covers, then newborn, small, etc.  Maybe that made the difference?

  • DS had explosive poops for about the first 2 months. At that point, nothing helped keep the poopy from getting on the cover. It was just-a-gonna-happen.

After that his pooping calmed down, but we've just made it a habit to angel wing and snappi. I suppose we don't need to, but we still do.
