TTC after 35

Therapy help with concentration?

Those who see a therapist, has it helped your general ability to concentrate?

I am a distracted, scatter-brain lately. I am so freaking antsy. I am eager to get going with DE, while simultaneously full of dread. I really don't want to spend the money on therapy, but I also don't want to get fired because I'm performing so poorly.

Re: Therapy help with concentration?

  • Well we all know what everyone thinks about my therapist...haaha. Only been to her twice so my answer is no. Hope others can help you :) Then again..how could we not be distracted with what we are all going through? I responded to my post that thank goodness I am not a nurse or dr because I'm sure I would of given wrong dosage of meds or something yesterday!

    ME:46 MH:44 DE IVF 2014
Met with RE 4/11. 2 IUI's BFN. DE best option. Switched clinics to do "shared" program. Had to retake all tests and a mamm that put me behind and then on a DE waiting list for 12 months. Picked a donor!! (10/13/13) Got matched. Estimated transfer in December. After 2.5 years of patiently waiting I will finally cycle....can hardly believe it. DE cycle got cancelled. One of her tests came back positive.  Waiting for another donor. Donor picked!! (1/18/14)

  • I don't think it has helped with concentration for me.  Some days I feel ok and can concentrate. Then there are days (like today) where I am waiting for b/w to come back and I am a disaster at work.

  • I don't see a therapist but I have one in the family. I know they could give you mental tools and exercises that would help you with concentration. I think it is well worth the moolah.

I can't concentrate either, except when I am under pressure. My performance was down about 6 months ago, so I had to readjust and get out of my IF crazy head as much as possible. It's hard, but caffeine and music can help a little bit.

We've all been there, though. Take care of yourself, Mt.

  • I have had the same therapist for over 6 years and LOVE her.  She has really helped me through some tough times...and good times.  I don't know that it has helped with my concentration but she has given me some tools to help with obsessive thoughts...this is what I do.  I obsess about everything and baby making is no different.

I have found meditation to be helpful.  I do a guided meditation from a podcast and I try to do it at least EOD, sometimes every day.  I can still get off the beam frequently but it does help.

  • I also struggle with concentration. Therapy does help, in that it reduces my anxiety, which I think is closely related. If your insurance will cover it, you might try talking to a naturopath - they often have supplements and nutritional strategies that help with anxiety/concentration.

  • I think therapy is great if you need to work through a specific issue. Been there, done that and felt therapy was beneficial.  If the primary issue is general concentration or ability to focus then I think Yoga and acupuncture have helped me.

  • I've definitely been scatterbrained and unfocused over the last 6 months or so since beginning treatments.  I haven't tried therapy yet, but so far I've found working out regularly really helps -- maybe because it elevates my mood a bit and helps me let off some steam.
