Hi All-
DH and I are going to try for #2 using our frostbabies left over from IVF. With IVF #1, I was given progesterone in a tablet form. However, with the FET, my dr wants me to use PIO and estrace (I think) shots. Both of these meds look like they're in oil, and I've never done this super deep shots with oil. I'm really nervous b/c I've heard they are REALLY painful. Any tips to make these shots less painful or are they just going to hurt like heck and I have to deal w/ it?
Re: PIO Shots-Nervous!
Ice the area first, heat afterwards. I gave myself PIO and didn't find them to be as terrible as I'd heard. Although, by Beta both butt cheeks were feeling a bit sore.
The anxiety was worse than the shots for me. They're not fun, but they're not that bad.
Warm the vials up with body heat (I always stuck in my cleavage or had DH hold onto the vial for a few minutes) to help make the oil less viscous. And, rub the injection area afterwards to help disperse the oil in the muscle. I also walked and/or did squats afterwards to help disperse. Good luck!
Me: 36, DH: 42

DH: low count + very low motility; hormones all normal; Sperm DNA Frag. test = poor to fair; male karyotyping normal
Me: FSH 13.4 + AMH 0.26 + hypothyroidism; Scratch the hypothyrodism (?); Blood clotting and immune panel all negative; endometrial biopsy normal

What Happywife and Mtlaurel said but I'd like to add, that I didn't need the icing or anything else special. The pain wasn't that bad and much of the time the anticipation was worse than the event.
Deep calming breaths (exhale as the needle goes in) and confidence helped a lot.
