Breastfeeding

Stupid question, rice cereal related

I am starting some solids with one of my twins (the other has shown no interest) and am not sure how/when to get the breast milk to mix with the cereal. Do I have to pump? If so, when would I do that to not screw up their regular BF'ing. The last few times we have just been trying I hand express a little for him to just experiment with. Unfortunately he is really taking to it and wants more than I am hand expressing after BF'ing.

Should I just mix it with water? Or should I pull some BM out of the freezer? Or should I pump at some point?

TIA!!

Re: Stupid question, rice cereal related

  • I do rice cereal a little after a nursing session, so I just pump the BM left over after nursing and add that. It's usually no more than a couple tablespoons worth. Don't mix with water, that's for older babies.

Usually there's instructions on the cereal packaging, if that helps.

  • I would just pump a little after breastfeeding.  I wouldn't do water either.
  • Honestly, throw the crap away.  It serves zero nutritional value and contains trace amounts of arsenic, even the organic.  We started with sweet potato bc it is sweet like breastmilk and still gives LO the solid food feel.
