Alarm clock and baby waking up?

DS's room is right next to ours. I go back to work in a little over a week and I am wondering how I am going to set an alarm and not have it wake LO up? I am getting nervous about the whole getting me and LO ready in the morning. Right now he wakes up around 5 and goes back to bed until after 7 so I am thinking he will be sleeping when I get ready. But what about the alarm?

I could shut the door but I am afraid I won't hear him and I would prefer not to use the monitor at night....

  • We sleep with him right next to our bed and both our alarms go off in the morning and don't wake him up.  My H has the angry birds theme song, and for some reason it's loud, so one morning it woke up LO and I made damn sure when that thing goes off in the morning H is right on it to turn it off or snooze.

I'm closer to LO and mine is just a birds chirping type alarm on my phone, he sleeps right through it.

Do a few practices runs to see what works best.

  • I agree with the pp, try it out a few times.  DS sleeps through our alarm going off, and he is sleeping in his RnP right next to the nightstand with the alarm on it.  I am able to shower and get ready for work before I dream feed him and get him ready for daycare.

  • Same here.  I use my cell phone for my alarm and set it to a soothing sound (natures melody I think?).  LO sleeps right through it.
  • Mine has never woken DD up. Not much does if she's in a deep sleep. We use a white noise machine in her room too.

  • Every situation is different, but I'd probably just get up when LO wakes at 5 and go to work early

  • I use my phone as the alarm and tuck it in between the 2 pillows on the bed, that way both alarms for DH and myself are heard. DH gets up at 4:30 for work and showers/gets ready, and DD's room is right across the hall. She has stirred a few times w/the bathroom noises and creaky floors, but has generally gone back to sleep.

  • LO is still in the room with us and DH has a loud obnoxious alarm that goes off several times every morning.  LO has yet to wake up from it.  Just see how it goes...you might be surprised!

  • Like pp, DS has never gotten up to my alarm....and it is LOUD! But I have been finding myself getting up 5 minutes before my alarm goes off, darn internal clock. I have never been one to hit snooze so I don't worry about it going off multiple times to wake up DS.

  • I guess I am the opposite as PP. My husband's alarm is just a few notes long but it wakes LO up most mornings. I hate it because he just snoozes the alarm a few times but I have to get up after the first alarm because DS is awake. Not cool!
  • DD sleeps in our bed and FI snoozes his alarm every 5 mins for an hour and it doesn't wake her up lol.
