So I'm convinced that DD has self weened - she hasn't nursed in about 2 months so I'm exclusively pumping. I get around 30 oz a day, pumping 4x a day. Since I have a decent freezer stash and DD doesn't take 30 oz most days, I was thinking about doing 3 pumpings a day (going about 6 hrs between each pump session) for the month of Feb and then dropping to two sessions a day during the month of March so that come her 1 year b-day I can give it all up.
Part of my reasoning is because I hate pumping - but I'm also nervous about when I do stop that the engorgement will be awful if I go from 4 pump sessions a day to 0 immediately. My most important goal though is to make sure DD has enough milk throughout the day though and that my supply wont take before she's 1.
Does anyone have any experience with this and if they have had a massive decrease in their supply
Re: Thinking about dropping a pump session...
WHen I first started dropping sessions, I found that there wasn't really any decrease in supply.
I will say, do it gradually.
I went from pumping every 3 hours to every 3.5 to 3very 4 to every 4.5 to every 5, blah blah blah. Eventually the sessions 'meshed' into each other and went away.
(DD nurses first thing in the AM, I pump at my lunch break, and she nurses when I get home and one time in the middle of the night [*sigh* That's the one I need to deal with myself]--but a few months ago, there was another pumping session in there (and a nursing session when I was home @ that same time) and I just moved that session later and later until it 'mushed' with the noon one)
