I keep meaning to update more, but I think the NICU life is wearing me down.
If anyone remembers, I had my baby in Houston (at 29wks) and we live in Austin. Denver is just about 4wks old and we are still stuck in Houston. We got our hopes all up when they told us yesterday that our insurance had approved our transfer home. I got the hospital early this morning so that I could ride with Denver to Austin in the ambulance. My parents were following later in the day with my 3yr old daughter. Today, our insurance decided that since the transfer would only be for our 'convenience' and not medically necessary, it was not approved.
We (me, our case workers at both hospitals and our neonatologist) fought all day long with Aetna. I cried all. day. long. We are still getting told no at every turn, but we are not giving up.
I'm so worn down, though. I just wanna go home. I actually called my OB and asked for some sort of sedative today, but they wouldn't give me one since they're not conducive with breast feeding (or so they say). They did set me up with a counselor of some sort to meet with tomorrow b/c I'm not handling my *** well today.
My little guy is doing good, though. He's just about gained a pound and he'll be 4 weeks old on Friday. Maybe we can start trying to bottle feed next week since he'll be at 34wks gestation.
Re: Denver update
So glad that Denver is doing well! I can't even imagine how hard it is to be away from home right now. ((HUGE HUGS)) be gentle with yourself. Give yourself some time off for you- get a pedicure, drink a glass of wine, or just scream into your pillow. Whatever helps!
At this point in DS's stay I was going crazy counting the minutes till he could come home. Everyone will tell you it will be here before you know it, and it will, but I know that doesn't help when you're in the midst of things. Feel free to vent whenever you need to.

I'm so sorry that you are your little man are going through so much. I hate your insurance company for you, it amazes me that they can be so cruel. I hope your little guy can go home with you soon
Hi! I completely feel for you. My son was born while I was on a business trip 5 hours away from home, so we lived in a hotel for his entire 70 day NICU stay. Like you, our insurance denied the transfer because it wasn't "medically necessary." In the end, I'm actually happy we stayed with the NICU out of state - I think it was a better facility. I doubt that's the same situation for you, though.
Feel free to PM me if you want to talk more about this or want someone to vent to (just page me here so I know to look for the message). I know exactly where you are, and I know how hard it is. I send you lots of hugs.
