I need to get passports for my girls. Any tips for me on the least painful way to do this? We'll need them in May (for a trip with the grandparents that is both awesome and terrifying to me--more on that later, I'm sure), so not a huge rush.
We did ours at the UT international office. It was painless and they do everything there(pics too). And, there was no wait so it wAs great for the kids!!

Wanted to add that I especially liked having the pictures done there because the govt is super picky about the picture(even with kids)and they really know what they are doing as opposed to the pharmacy or somewhere.

We got DS's passport at the Travis County District Clerks office, much better then the post offices where you have to make an appt. We went on 12/27 and got it back before the 18th of January (last week) for our trip in February.
DH & I had to go together because we had to sign paperwork and such. We were in and out in 20 minutes. They did his photos and everything, and were very cool with our 9-month old.

I need to get ones for my girls too.
If you go to the UT office - how does that work? Bring a check, all the papers and zee kids with their hair brushed? Does DH need to be there or would it make things easier?

I don't know how it works at the UT office but assuming it is the same as the post office, you'll just need to bring the application, birth certs, check(s), and the kiddos. Your DH will either need to be there in person but there is also a form he can sign/get notarized so you can get passports in his absence. It's available on the US State Department website with the passport application forms.
Don't get them done at Walgreens. We did and it was a major hassle and they did not do it right. So the lady at the passport office (On Burnett or Lamar, I believe) had to redo it right there. She was very nice and had a few toys to distract the kiddos while taking the picture. That office by the way was great for the passport application. Very fast and efficient (as far as government offices go)

Yep, we did K2's at the Travis County District Clerk's office too and it seemed a lot easier than when we did K1's at the Post office.
Can't wait to hear all about the upcoming trip!
