DS threw a tantrum - yay!

What?

DS has entered the tantrum phase of his life ... and they're awesome.  Awesome in that they're epic.  It's funny that I'd be happy about something so typical but yeah, it's one of the few things he does like a "typical 2 year old".

Anyway, DS is watched during the day by my parents and my mom at least always acts surprised when I say that DS's tantrums are epic and will always counter with "well I'm not saying you do anything but he NEVER throws tantrums with us".  That would probably be because they let him get away with murder but anyway ... there's that.

We share a two family house and we were having some bathtub issues so we took him downstairs for his bath.  Grandma volunteered (and I wasn't about to say no) and after the bath, he's in his PJs and then proceeds to walk to the front door and wants to go out.  It's FREEZING out so no, going out is not going to happen.  I said no and then he went to grandma and took her to the door and pointed to it and indicated he wanted to go out.  Grandma said no.  3..2..1... he plopped himself onto the floor and threw a tantrum.  Chock full of fat tears, stomping, he also sits on the floor and kicks his legs in frustration.  It's terribly cute, when not irritating as all get out.  I wish I'd had a camera to take a picture of my mom's face.  She couldn't believe it.  She tried to approach him only to have him swat her hands away in frustration.  Again - this would've been a perfect picture moment.  I couldn't help it, I smirked and said "what did you do?" She stammered for a minute and then realized I was just teasing her.

She then proceeded to tell me that his tantrums were the exact same as mine at that age.

He calmed down shortly but it was great to just have that moment.  One - she realized that we don't do anything to trigger them and secondly - it was a completely "typical" moment to have with our "anything but typical" son.

Re: DS threw a tantrum - yay!

  • Right now I love tantrums too. Nate's aren't too bad (yet) and I am sure in the future I will think "why did I ever wish for these??!"

Since he is not walking, he does this hilarious butt spin by digging his heals in the floor and spinning around. If it's a two time round spin you know he's really pissed.

  • That's too funny.  I thought I was the only person that love it when my son really threw a huge tantrum.  To me it was a sign that he really is in there and wants to communicate.  I love it!  Before he would just walk away if you said no or even worse wouldn't even let you know what he wanted.  Yesterday there was kid on the car he likes at our playground and he completely threw himself on the ground.  It was great to see that he realized not only did he want to play with a toy, but he didn't want to share it.  I'm sure one day when I'm working on sharing or listening to mommy I will regret ever being so happy, but today it feels like my son wants to be in our world and I really love that.
