Hi ladies. I'm looking for some advice/suggestions. I'm not due until the end of February and I'm a FTM. I plan on breastfeeding, so I put a breast pump on my registry, and it was purchased.
I got the double version of this pump (which I can no longer find online!): https://www.toysrus.ca/product/index.jsp?productId=3464712&prodFindSrc=search&foreSeeBrowseSampling=15&foreSeeBrowseLoyalty=1&foreSeeEnabled=true
We had just scanned it while in-store and I never really checked out the reviews until after it was purchased, and they seem pretty mixed between "This product is total crap", and "Yeah, it's great".
I'm just wondering if anyone else has used this, and what their thoughts were.
I don't know how long I will breastfeed for, and at some point, I may decide to pump exclusively, and I'm worried that this breast pump isn't going to cut it. Some people have suggested Medela or Avent, but these pumps are $350+ in Canada, so I'm wondering if it's actually worth paying the extra money or what?
Any advice would be helpful, I'm not sure what to expect with the whole breastfeeding experience. Thanks in advance!
Re: miPump
I got one b/c it was the cheapest and I didn't know any better. I also freaked out when I read the reviews.
BUT... here we are at 10+ months, I use the pump 2X per day every weekday (and have since 6 weeks) and it's still going strong. I'm not sure about it not being as efficient at emptying as other pumps. I've never had problems getting enough for DS's bottles, but I also have no problem with supply, and have never tried another pump.
If it's a hastle to take it back, give it a try, it might just work for you :-)

I have that pump, the double version. I have only been using it for 5 weeks right now, and so far I like it. I bought it because it was fairly inexpensive and had some decent reviews. I was also planning on nursing most of the time and just use the pump occasionally. But, we're having difficulty with latching so I mostly pump and only nurse a couple times a day.
I have been pumping about 8x day for 5 weeks now and it has held up just fine. I like that it's really small and can run on a batttery pack so it's great for travel. I am satisfied with it so far but since I might end up EPing, I feel like I will need to eventually buy a more reliable pump. I do wonder how effectively it is emptying my breasts. I have nothing to compare it to, but I sometimes wonder if I had a more expensive pump if I would be pumping more milk.

I have this pump. The motor quit working on my 1st one at 2 months. You have to contact the manufacturer in order to get a replacement. I didn't have time to do that as I am exclusively pumping, so back to Target I went to buy another one.*
This pump does a decent job, when it works, but takes forever. 20-30 minute pumping session on this pump but with my Medela Pump In Style it takes less than 10 minutes to get the same amount of milk.
That being said I STRONGLY encourage you to pay the extra money for a Medela. I am a working mom and I can't imagine my life without it.
Also, I much prefer the slim pump parts to my Medela pump over the bulky miPump parts. And the Medela is quiet while the miPump makes this loud clicking noise.
*My Medela pump was being shipped to me when my original miPump quit working. I never would have bought another one if I had already had the Medela.
Thank you so much for the replies ladies! I think I'm going to take it back to be on the safe side, a lot of the reviews I've read said that people had problems with the machine quitting, and out of the replies I've received here, it still sounds like a major issue with it.
I've never breastfed before, and just want to share what was suggested on another board, which is to wait and see how baby does, or how I do, so I can get a feel for how often I might use the pump, then make a purchase decision off of that. I have only seen Medela and Lansinoh here (I'm in Canada) at BRU, so I guess those are my choices, but they are very expensive. I guess finding out how often I will need to use the pump will help me make a better decision on whether it will be worth it to spend the money or not, or just buy a hand pump or something for engorgement if I am able to breastfeed exclusively.
Thanks for the advice ladies!
