How bad is coffee?

I avoided caffeine during pregnancy...but after 2 hours of total sleep and a 3 year old up and ready to go, I'm seriously dragging. I know some of the caffeine can get passed along, but is one cup a day okay?

Re: How bad is coffee?

  • I think it more depends on the baby.  Some caffeine is ok, but dd turns into a crazy lady punching, kicking, and doing baby karate instead of sleeping so I need to stay away from anything stronger than green tea.

  • I have a cup every day. Occasionally a little more... DS does pretty well I'd say. He sleeps pretty well, and I couldn't say it gas affected him otherwise, either. But I also had caffeine throughout my pregnancy. I would not be able to function. Haha

  • I have a cup of half decaf/half regular every morning.

  • I drink 2 cups in the AM and 1 cup around 3pm somedays...my guy is fine.  You will have to see how your little handles it.  I also drank hal decaf throughout my pregnancy.
  • You'll have to experiment and see how LO does with it - lots of babies can tolerate caffeine, some can't very well. I stayed away completely until DD was about 4 months old and then started with just some caffeinated soda.  I still only drink decaf coffee but will have one can of caff soda at lunch if I am really dragging.

  • Coffee isn't bad.

    Coffee is so, so good.

I have had coffee every day of my baby's life. At least 1 cup, up to about 3. (Beyond that, I have sleep problems, I really have zero concerns for my baby)

  • I drank a cup a day throughout my pregnancy. After DS was born, I had a cup a day sometimes two on the weekends. We've been BF for 18 months, never had a problem.

    You should be fine!

  • I used decaf only, quit it all, drink 1/2 caf, have drank regular at work.  Haven't noticed any change.  If I do have the super strong stuff (which I usually don't) I mark the bottles I pump with "AM" to know not to give it to her at night LOL
