I posted yesterday with minor details saying that I had my baby! Well here's how it all went down (excuse any typos I'm on my phone).
So Monday morning I started having contractions for the first time! I went to my 41 week appt that included a NST and an U/S. When I met with the midwife I was expecting to be nothing, just like I was the previous two weeks! Well turns out I was 2 cm! She said she'd probably be hearing from us later that day and gave the midwife on call a heads up.
My FI and I went around our normal day, got some new curtains etc. We even stopped by our dog's kennel to give them a heads up that we would probably be bringing him in soon. We got home and made sure everything last minute was packed, had lunch, and just hung out. My contractions started getting closer together (about 5 mins) and I was told to call when they were 4 mins apart. I figured it would take us a while to get in there anyway so I called and they told us to come in!
We brought our dog to the kennels and headed to the hospital. My contractions at this point were still about 5 mins apart. When I was checked in though apparently my blood pressure was through the roof! I was diagnosed then with preeclampsia which surprised me because it came on suddenly and no one had mentioned it at my appt that morning! Well because of the diagnosis I was not allowed to have the midwife deliver my baby. I was so upset. I was working toward a certain birth for over 9 months now! I was even more upset when the word pitocin came up! The doctor and I compromised and I let them rupture my membranes before any more talk of pitocin. My contractions had been getting more and more intense, but after they broke my water... WOW! I was dead set on having a natural med free birth, but after that I knew I couldn't handle it! It was the right choice to make! I got the Epi and felt much better!
At that point my blood pressure bottomed out to something like 50/20! They gave me 2 doses of ephedra (which will come into play later) and got my bp back up. After all that I stalled out so I ended up needing the pitocin to get labor back on track. It was hours before anything was really going on but once it hit, it moved so quickly! Once I started feeling pressure they let me start pushing. I never thought in a million years I'd be able to do something like this, but I did! I pushed him out in about 30 mins and I was so surprised! Luka Regis made his appearance on Jan 24th at 4:05am weighing in at 7lbs 11oz 19 3/4 inches long! He had aspirated some merconium so he had to be whisked away, but once I got to hold him it was the greatest thing in the world!
So after delivery (at this hospital) you go up to a different floor. Well apparently my pulse was too high so I wasn't allowed to go anywhere for 6 hours! I had all these tests run on me to figure out why my pulse was so high, then someone realized what they gave me before! It took them 6 hours to realize that!
I can't get too mad though I have a beautiful baby boy here now! GL to all the other Jan moms with inside babies, they'll be here before you know it!
