Thrush Question (XP from Nov 11)

Of those of you who have had it, what did you do about washing the Nystatin off before feeding LO? My doctor didn't say anything about washing it off, so I googled it just to make sure. I read that it cannot be ingested orally, but that there are still chemicals/ingredients in it that are certainly not good for LO. So I am assuming that it needs to be washed completely off before feeding, and then re-applied after. Whenever I try to wash it off though, I used soap and warm water, but somehow I can still feel some residue of the cream. Is there some trick of the trade here that I haven't figured out?

  • My doctor said to just wipe it off, but I wash with warm water and cetaphil. Seems to do the trick.

  • I don't understand why you would have to wash it off at all.  I have script for Nystatin to put IN my DS's mouth.

  • I asked my OB specifically if I had to wash it off and she said no. I was applying triple nipple cream after each nursing session so by the time it was ready for her to eat again most of it had worn off anyways.

hmmm...ok, maybe I'll just give my OB a call today just for peace of mind. Thanks ladies!

  • I have been wiping off only if there is a visible layer....I do not wash my nipple before feedings.
