Greenish poop

My LO has had greenish poop the last 2 days. I'm still EBF-ing, am not eating angthing different. She's having plenty of wet diapers, but her poopy diapers have slowed down. She's been a bit cranky & gassy, but I'm concerned it may be something more than just a change in her digestive system (esp since she's EBF). I'm planning on calling the doctor tomorrow, but do any of you have any insight tonight?

Re: Greenish poop

  • DD's pedi says that's usually from too much foremilk and not enough hindmilk.

Make sure your LO completely empties one side before going to the other? A lot of times they'll stop sucking when it gets a little more difficult, but that's when they get that hindmilk.

  • Thank you! I've been trying to make sure she's emptying one before I switch, but sometimes I'm not sure if she is oyr not.

  • Do you have oversupply or a forceful let down (when the milk shoots out fast and furious)? This is often a cause of imbalance. If so, you could try nursing one side per feed. Also, pull her off at let down and let the milk flow into a burp rag until it stops gushing: then let lo relatch. Different nursing positions can help, such as side lying or nursing uphill (baby is above the breast, you are reclined or lying on your back). Check out kellymom.com for a lot of great information.
