Toddlers: 24 Months+

Anyone do an Elmo party for a 2 y.o.?

My older DD is turning 2 in less than 2 months (sniff sniff) and we are planning an Elmo party. Last year she was still kind of oblivious to the whole bday thing but I am so excited about this year. I don't think she understands the whole birthday concept and being a year older but she def understands cake (from friends bdays) and she loves playing with other kids, presents (of corse!) and LOVES Elmo. I am starting to work on invites (which are mostly made already) and decorations and favors. I really need ideas for decorations, favors and cake/cupcakes. I have a 2 1/2 month old too so preferably things that don't take too long to make. We are doing just Elmo (rather than the whole Sesame Street gang) because DD doesn't really watch Sesame Street. Thanks to g-ma and g-pa She has ALL the Elmo toys and loves them. I've tried putting on Sesame Street for her and she's only interested in Elmo's World and other parts he's in. She hears him and comes running but as soon as he's gone she's over it. Anyway, TIA for any suggestions and I look forward to joining you all in 7ish weeks!

  • We did for my DD's 2nd b-day. The easiest cake idea is to get the Wilton Elmo cake pan. It was super easy. Snack ideas - Goldfish crackers (Dorothy!), Earth's Best snacks/food that come in Elmo shapes, and those juice boxes (forget the brand) that have Elmo on them.

  • We went to a 2 yo's Elmo bday party that was fun last month. They had a follow the clues game to find their treat bags based on Elmo's World. We went to the window for Mr. Noodle and got a clue to check the door, then check for email, etc. It'd been fun if you had fish to put Dorothy in there too. The treat bags had a bunch of snacks from the Earth's Best Sesame Street line (along with Elmo stickers, coloring pages and crayons) and the juice boxes were too. The dollar bin at Target frequently has Sesame Street books and other random Sesame Street stuff, so I would check there. We played pin the nose of Elmo and throw the trash into Oscar's can (a small silver trash can with a cut out Oscar head sticking up behind it). The kids really liked searching for Ernie's duck, which was a plastic pool filled with ball pit balls that had rubber duckies hidden in it. My DD is a Sesame Street fan and had a blast at the party.

  • A friend of mine did the Elmo cake with the Wilton pan, she said it was easy!  Another friend of mine did a Cookie Monster party and the cupcakes were blue and for the mouth - a half of a Chips Ahoy cookie - they were so neat.

  • I had big plans, but ended up getting the invitations, plates, cups, tablecloth, etc. at Kmart. They have a rather large Elmo birthday line. I ordered an Elmo cake at our local grocery store and served Ds's favorite foods. It all looked really cute once it was together.

  • We did an Elmo party for DD. Here is a PIP of the cupcakes I made. They were really easy actually, I bought red liners, added red coloring to frosting and used a "fur" piping tip. The mouth is half an Oreo. The eyes are vanilla candy melts with black gel icing for irises. The noses are sour peaches. Good luck! Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos
  • We did Sesame Street Party w/a focus on the primary colors for DD. We did little cups of goldfish, little pizza's (Elmo's Pizza),  other stuff but it was related to the other characters.  My fav was the punch: Ernies Rubber Ducky Punch....it looked like a bath w/bubbles and rubber duckies floating on top.

  • We did an Elmo theme for DS's bday.  I bought the plates, invites, party hats, napkins, balloons, etc. at party city.  I bought a goldfish for one of DS's bday presents and used it as a centerpiece for the table.  I just made vanilla cupcakes with red frosting (I made it look like fur) and had some different candies to choose from on a  dessert table.  Goldfish crackers are a cute snack or take home gift for guests.  I didn't have many kids at DS's bday, just family, so we didn't play any games.

  • We did. They have an Elmo face cake pan for $12 at Party City, and Target... I lucked out and they had a lot of really cute Elmo stuff at the Dollar Tree. I made Elmo cupcakes-super easy!

  • We did a Sesame Street party for DS's second birthday. We ordered this: https://www.etsy.com/listing/80197262/customized-sesame-street-inspired-party

It was pretty much all that we needed to decorate! It was perfect! Although you did say you were just doing an Elmo party, and this kit includes all of the Sesame Street characters. We also did Elmo, Grover, Cookie Monster, and Oscar the Grouch cupcakes. Like some of the other pp's also said we had Elmo's Pizza, Dorothy's goldfish, etc. The kit that I linked includes food name cards like this.

  • We have done an Elmo/Sesame St party TWICE now (per DD's request the second time).  I refuse to do a third so I'm trying to sell her on a Little Mermaid party for this year!  :)

Anyway, I did the rubber ducky punch, Goldfish crackers (served in little Elmo cupcake liners), some scachatta (sp?) pizza (Elmo's pizza), and the Elmo/Big Bird juice boxes.  I also got the Goldfish shaped bread and made pb&j sandwiches for the kids.  Also got sandwich trays for the adults.  I got an Elmo & Abby cake for the adults and also got cupcakes for the kids with little Sesame Street character rings on top and tiny ABC sprinkles on the cupcakes.  I also served cheese & crackers and using tiny cookie cutters, made "A" and "2" cutouts of the cheese since the party was brought to you by the letter "A" and number "2"!  I also served fruit, chicken nuggets, and other stuff.

Favors were custom made Elmo soap from a local soap shop (SO CUTE), sand pails & sidewalk chalk from the $1 bin at Target, and Sesame Street curly straws from Party City.

BY FAR, the highlight of the whole party was when Elmo himself made an appearance!  Hiring Elmo to show up was definitely the best gift I could have ever given her.  She hugged him, danced with him, and at one point gave him a tour of her house.  She absolutely loved having Elmo's attention for an hour and her little friends loved it too.

    BEST PARTY EVER.
