hand foot and mouth disease

Ugh! This is horrible.  Ethan now has it and it is so hard to listen to him cry b/c it hurts or itches.  It is also a gross looking rash.  Sadly there is nothing you can do for it but wait for it to run its course. I have no idea if me or dh are going to get it.  Sophia is so much better. Her spots are fading and she is in a great mood.

Dh said ethan was so calm and quiet today.  He forgot that we had Ethan on benadryl all day and a higher dose than we should have b/c our dr's website had the wrong dosage amount.

Re: hand foot and mouth disease

  • Evan had this when Andrew was about 3 weeks old...it was not fun, but only last a couple days.  Luckily A did not get it.  Hope that the kids are feeling better.  E's sores were not very big, so it was only like 2 days of not wanting to eat, etc.

  • That stinks. Ian had it a couple years ago. Our pedi told us to give him a mixture of Maalox and Benedryl (I think it's 1:1) to help with the mouth sores. We kept it in the fridge. I don't know if it did a whole lot of good, but at least we didn't feel completely hopeless.

  • Oh poor E! We haven't had this yet, hope we never do! Yikes, sounds so uncomfortable!

Hope he gets better quick and no one else gets it!

  • that sounds terrible. I hope he is on the mend soon!
  • T was sick with it for her 2nd Birthday. The doc said its a popular illness in summer! She only had sores in her throat from it but was so sick! Just be careful because the virus lingers in their system for quite a while after symptoms go away so you might want to read up on it. I forget how long they're contagious for but I remember it being a long time. Luckily DH and I never got it, I think because her sores were never touching us. Hope the kiddos are feeling better soon!!
