2nd Trimester

medication question

I am 20 weeks pregnant and got the flu really bad on Friday. I knew Tylenol was safe to take during pregnancy but I didnt realize how many types of tylenol there are. I took Tylenol cold and flu because I could  not find just regular Tylenol. Then I come to find out that this could be dangerous because it contains 5 mg of Phenylephrine. I am going to contact my doctor when she opens but anyone know if this could cause major problems? I have been worried all night about it. I took the medication for two days. Thanks for the help.

Re: medication question

  • My Dr said any of the Tylenol cold and flu stuff was ok IF you had to take something. I'm sure you'll be fine but good to follow up just in case

  •  I found out yesterday that I had the flu- My obgyn prescribed Tamiflu and I feel better after just 2 doses. After reading your post, I went back and read the ingredients in the Cold medicine I purchased. It has Phenylephrine too so I guess I won't be taking it. I asked m doctor and she said to stick with one ingredient meds instead of going for the "multi-symptom" ones. Try Mucinex - it should help. The info I read stated that phenylephrine is more harmful if taken at 13 weeks or less. I think at 20 weeks pregnant and only 2 days of taking it- you'll be fine. Hope you feel better soon!
