im a first time mom with a 3 week old! i have been exclusively breastfeeding and about 5 days ago or so started pumping after nursing in order to start a supply, as i have to go back to work when he is 4 weeks old.. i had gotten over nursing pain and we were doing great...now pumping seems to have restored all the nipple pain - is this normal? how long does it last? tips on relief?
due 1/10/12 with Logan Allan!
Re: pumping pain
Make sure you are using the right size flange. I googled youtube videos to see what my nipple should look like while pumping (how much space around it). And a nipple cream is a must! I use Earth Mama Angel Baby Nipple Butter.
Have you been able to give your LO a bottle? If you are returning to work next week, try to feed your LO a bottle before you return. You just need enough of a stash to get you through the first day, since while you are at work you will pump once per bottle your LO gets, and that milk will be for your LO on your second day back at work.
thanks! the nipple looks similar to the youtube videos... hard to tell though! how many weeks did it take to get better? we haven't tried a bottle yet..but until im certain of how often i will be able to pump at work i want to get a supply going...and after nursing i get hardly an ounce a side.. so it takes time to make enough for even one bottle!
