Where did #2 sleep?

Did you buy a second crib, use a bassinet or a pack n play for #2? I can't imagine that my 19 month old will be ready for a toddler bed (or maybe I wont be ready for her to have that freedom). I never used a bassinet with #1 because she prefered the crib. I thought of a pack-n-play (which I would have to buy) but I am not sure that I can use my Angel Care Monitor with those pads, and I am a freak about SIDS (I am an Peds ICU nurse and know too many stories). What do you recomend?

Re: Where did #2 sleep?

  • DD1 had a convertible crib that we are handing down to DD2. She is 19 months and transitioned to a toddler bed last week very easily. We tried around 15 months and it did not go so well. DD2 will sleep in the crib in our room for a few weeks, then move to her own room.

  • We used a PNP at first and then a second crib.  DS is still in his crib.

  • Wherever the first month or so - Survival of the fittest while we established BFing so I pretty much lived on the couch and she slept in the swing or bouncy seat or just on me at times.

Then the PnP next to my side of the bed until she was 11.5 months. That wasn't our plan (we were going to move her out when she was STTN) but we had quite a few things come up and it just didn't happen til she was almost one. It worked out well though. DD1 transitioned to a toddler bed months before so we had her in the crib converted to a toddler bed and just bought her an actual toddler bed and converted the crib back for DD2. They both sleep together fine, some nights they stay up for awhile "playing" but they get along and sleep through the night so it works for us!

  • Started out in the PNP, but she would not sleep in it. So we got a Rock and Play, and she's still in it, right next to my bed. DD1 was a week shy of 19 months when DD2 was born, and definitely not ready for a toddler bed. Now she's not quite 23 months and transitioned to the toddler bed last week, by her choice, with zero problems. Next week I'll be working with DD2 to nap in the crib, and in another month or two we'll move her in there at night.

  • DS1 went into a twin bed at 13.5 months. We've never had any issues with him in his bed and he has always loved his bed.

DS2 is about to be moved into a twin bed and sharing a room with his brother. I have no concerns about moving him to a twin bed.

The baby always goes in the crib from night one. We use the angelcare in the crib. I never tried it in the PNP but I would think you'd get a lot of false alarms with it in the PNP. It's not solid enough for the pad

  • We bought another crib for DS. He's been in his crib in his room since he came home. My DD is still in her crib and I doubt she will transition any time soon.
  • We currently have DS in a minicrib.  He is 18 months old.  DD #2 will arrive when DS is 22 months and I don't think he's ready for a toddler bed yet, so we bought a convertible crib for him.
  • Everything i've read says leave your child in a crib as long as you can.  If LO#1 is climbing out of their crib its time to transition to a toddler bed or twin bed with rails.  With this in mind DS will be 22 months when LO#2 comes along.  I plan to have new baby sleep in our room in a bassinette for 4-6 months and then move them to a crib in their own room.  DS current crib converts to a toddler bed but hes nowhere near ready for that.  When it comes time we will just see if we need to get a new crib for baby (if DS is using his crib as a toddler bed) or if we need to get a twin bed and move the crib for new baby.
