Stroller Strides

Have any of you heard of this! It's an exercise program where Moms can come with their strollers and babies. https://classes.strollerstrides.net/buffalony/location/index.aspx I just heard about it tonight and wondered if any of you have done it or knew someone who had. Sounds like a cool concept but I'm not sure how it would be to try and exercise with a toddler or baby stuck in a stroller next to me.

Re: Stroller Strides

  • It's pretty pricey. When we used to go to Polly's a woman spoke about it and I wanna say it was like $35 a month or something... to essentially mall walk with some push ups on a bench, lol.

  • I thought that through the Y here, it was free....you did not even have to be a member (unless this was something different).  They met at the mall or the Lake Parkway a few times a week.  I thought about it with Evan, but I really did not start exercises after I had him until he was about 8 months and then it was summer, and I just jogged with him in the stroller on my own.  With a newborn, I just never thought I could time the feedings right to get there when it was scheduled.  But it does sound like a fun time!

  • Isn't pushing a stroller enough of a work-out?  Just kidding.

I saw a couple classes before - one was at the Galleria before the stores were open and the other was near my house, which happens to be very close to Baby Sweet Beginnings.  Maybe that was the starting point?  I thought it looked like fun.

  • I saw a group at Eastview before R was born, I was in awe of all the high end strollers those mommy's had!
  • I've done stroller strides for the past year.  I LOVED it.  It was a great workout and I am a definitely someone that is in shape and thought it was going to be mall walking. I  was in for a huge surprise the first week I went and was sore for 3 days afterward.  I was also training for the Buffalo half marathon at the time so I was in pretty good shape.

The workouts during the summer were even more intense since we got to run hills outside.  We did a lot of resistance cord training, squats, push ups, etc.  It is sort of like one of those boot camp classes.  There was also a dumbbell class on Mondays that was great for upper body. My kids loved it and I made some great friends through it.  That said, the owner who was there for 3 years just transferred her ownership to a new girl.  I went to a few classes with the new girl and the intensity and overall atmosphere just isn't the same.  She is actually going on maternity leave pretty soon and I think Kelly (the original owner) is going to be back to cover for her so I will probably go back for awhile.  I need to get a really great workout for it to be worth my time and effort to pack up both of the kids and get there bright and early.

I never paid monthly.  You can buy a 10 pack for $100 so that is what I did.  Sometimes I would go 4 times in a week and other times it would be 3 weeks between classes. Kelly was also really great at tailoring the workout to your ability and fitness level.  If you were pregnant or just had a baby she would give exercise modifications.

  • Hi there - It's been around for many years.  My husband found out about it after I had my son, and we did not have one in Knoxville where we live so I started one.  We were new here and I was dying to make some friends and meet other moms.  I had PPD so being a part of this group really helped me and now I have life long friends from Stroller Strides.  I don't own it anymore, but most will tell you it is a pretty intense workout and the instructors do lots throughout the class to entertain the babies and tots. It's definitely not just a walk in the park.  There are about 20,000 women who participate all around the country.
  • Stroller Strides is a GREAT workout. A lot of moms think that just because you workout with your baby, you can't get a good workout. Instructors are trained to really be able to give a full body workout and entertain your baby at the same time. It's also a great way to meet other moms and for your baby to hang out with other babies. It's the best...you get to workout, be with friends, and have playtime for your kiddo. It's also more than just a class. We do playgroups and do cool things for the community like raise money for charities. There are also training programs for moms who want to run in races.
