Cloth Diapering

STTN and Cloth Diapers

My LO doesn't sleep through the night, but I am very happy with his current sleep schedule. Bedtime routine starts around 6:30pm (bath, PJ's, story, quiet play). He cluster feeds until 8:30pm then he is in his crib. He usually wakes up at 9:30pm for one last feeding then sleeps until 3:30am, feeds/change, then sleeps until 7:30am. We EBF so I am not expecting him to STTN yet but my question is, will he even be able to STTN when we cloth diaper? After his 6 hour stretch his diaper is saturated even with double liners. His entire crib would be flooded if he slept for 10 hours straight! Does any one else cloth diaper and what is your STTN experience?

  • Why yes, we CD ;)

DD is in a CD as we speak. Most people use a pocket stuffed with hemp, or fitteds and wool. Tnoight DD is in an overnight fitted (it has 4 layers of absorbency inside the diaper) and a fleece liner, with an interlock soaker. Last night she was in a BG4.0 stuffed with 3 layers of hemp wrapped in a mini prefold.

What are you using for a diaper right now?

  • I CD my 2 year old son overnight.  He usually drinks about 1/2 a sippy cup of water throughout the night. Currently we use fleece pockets stuffed with 1 or 2 hemp prefolds and a zorb II or microfiber insert.  I put regular jammies or wool pants over his diaper without problems.  It's a huge diaper but it works great for us.

I use Boobles Bottoms (https://www.canadasdiaperladies.com/) and haven't had any issues with leaking yet. A few close calls and I am sure that if he were to STTN that I would have some leakage. I guess I could always look into buying more diapers that are more absorbant.

  • I normally just put two of the one-size microfiber inserts and a newborn insert all in one pocket diaper...and yes his butt does look huge lol!  BUT it works and I mean he's asleep its not like he's moving.  He doesn't leak at all with this routine but honestly I think it depends on your child, you could have a heavy wetter or not :)

  • We use Monkey Snuggles overnights, Old School Cool, and Bububebe with a hemp insert and wool over them for overnight diapers. They work brilliantly.

  • Yeah, you'll need to buy some overnight diapers.

I use Kawaii Good Night Heavy Wetters. I stuff with 1 microfiber and 1 hemp or bamboo. I was doing 2 doublers, but he's cut down his eating overnight so he's cut down his wetting overnight.

He still doesn't sttn, but I quit changing overnight when he quit pooping overnight.

  • My oldest started STTN (9 pm to 7 am) around 7/8 months. My 3-month-old sleeps from 8 pm to 4 am, diaper change & nurse, then sleeps again til 8 am. I've never had a problem with leaks. We use a pocket diaper stuffed with a microfiber insert and a hemp doubler, with a fleece liner on top.

  • While my LO does not STTN.  I don't change him anymore at night.  Normally his night time dipe goes on around 7 and comes off around 6:30 am.  I just use a bum genius pocket stuffed with a microfiber insert and a hemp insert.  Also I adjust the rise to be one size bigger then he normally would wear to account for the extra stuffings in the pocket.

  • We started using BGs stuffed with a hemp prefold at about 4 months, and it holds amazingly well. He used to soak through the two BG inserts by 1 am, but with the hemp he goes all night.

I will say that once he cut back on his night feedings (he's down to 1 now) his diaper is MUCH less heavy in the morning.

  • ZB has been sleeping through the night since 8 weeks, so your answer is yes.
  • Yup, STTN and CD are good buddies in our house.

G started sleeping through the night at 8 weeks, we did fine with pockets and bamboo.  Around 6 months we started using fitteds. Now we use ON fitteds, with hemp doublers.  (All with fleece liners).

Even on night when she wakes to eat we don't change her diaper (since she no longer poos ON).  Our LO is in her ON diaper for about 12 hours.
