Both of my sisters live in Chicago, and both are pregnant. My younger sister is 35w2d today. She has had to go to the hospital a few times in this pregnancy for various things, the last thing being that she had contractions at 33ish weeks. At her appt last week, the doc said that she's far enough along that if she has more contractions they don't need to stop them--let the baby come. So I got a text an hour ago from my older sister that they are at the hospital because something's up with my younger sis, not really sure what's going on. I'm trying not to freak out. Babies born at 35 weeks or usually just fine right? Just in case that's what it is? If you have any spare dust or T&P you could send her way, I would appreciate it..... I just wish I could be theret, and I wish I knew what the f was going on!!!!
Thanks for listening

oh I so did my research... babies at 35 weeks have an 87 percent chance of being perfectly healthy with less than a month of NICU time. Most docs don't give steroid shots past 34 weeks and the baby at most will just need a little help with suck, swallow, breathe.
But I hope she keeps it cooking just a bit longer-- nobody wants to be in that 13 percent. Thoughts and prayers for your sis.

Leo was born at 35w6d and is happy, healthy 3 year old now. He did have to spend 10 days in the NICU, which I was totally unprepared for, and he did have some issues through probably the first year of his life that were (IMO) related to being a preemie. But now he is completely on track or advanced in all of his developmental areas, so I don't think there will be any long term issues.
I have a friend who had a daughter at 34 weeks who I want to say spent less time in the NICU than Leo (or maybe didn't have to go at all, I can't remember now). Again, happy and healthy now.
((hugs)) I know it's got to be so hard to be far away.
