couple questions:
Background: LO is 9.5 months and I am getting ready to nix the pump/boob. She is already fully off the boob so i have been EP for about 3 weeks. My supply is slowly decreasing (although i am fortunate to have a freezer stashto last at least two months). So the questions.
1. How do you wean completely, what is the best method? cold turkey? i'm envision being done around the end of feb. I'm ready.
2. how do you go from the bottle to no bottle at all and when do you work towards this? 1 year?
3. If your LO doesn't care for sippys how do you go about the cup. She likes to drink out of the cup if I hold it, if I dont' she just turns it upside down and soaks herself, funny yes, but doesn't get much in the mouth then :P. whats the best way to go from a bottle to a cup?
Re: Weaning....
1. Please don't go cold turkey. It'll just end up being painful for you. You need to slowing drop one feeding/pump session at a time. That way your supply will continue to decrease w/out making your breasts engorged.
2. At 1 yr, I got rid (packed up) all of DS's bottles. Out of sight, out of mind. Unless they see another kid with a bottle, they usually just forget about it.
3. Since your LO doesn't like sippy cups, buy some straw cups. I find most LO's seem to go for one or the other. Your LO is still too young to manage an open cup on her own and will be for quite some time.
GL!
I would not go cold turkey that would be very painful for you and could end up with you having mastitis.
I let my boys have bottles for bed time and nap times until they are a year and a half and then I wean them from that by giving them less and less in the bottle at a time for awhile until they go to sleep with out it. Well I did with my first and I'm envisioning that with my second. I didn't wean him from the breast until 12months.
At nine months your lo is a little young to like most sippy cups I would try the ones with a soft spout that feel like a bottle to transition to a cup.
