conflicted about work

My ideal would be to work until delivery-i want every one of those days of leave when LO is here.  However, its getting harder...i'm having contractions (that lead to nothing so far) throughout the day, my back is in terrible pain and the flourescent lights at my office now make me sick (wasn't expecting that)....Tomorrow's my due date, and part of me thinks I should just relent and start my leave, but then I consider the idea that it could be 2 more weeks before she is here and that's time with her I won't have PP...no one can make this decision but me, nevertheless I'd love to hear others' thoughts.

Re: conflicted about work

  • I don't see how you are still doing it! Granted, I was a waitress before I stopped working so it was always a suck-fest even before I got pregnant. LOL.

How much paid maternity leave do you have? If your SO is able to support your family off his income alone for a few weeks, would it be possible to supplement maternity leave with some unpaid vacation time PP? To me, this would be the best option even if it meant having fairly limited funds for a couple weeks.

Kudos to you for hanging in there this long! I was done a LONG time ago. LOL.

  • Its not a matter of paid vs unpaid leave...DH is working OT to supplement that, but with FMLA i get 12 weeks period...no matter when they start....

Halfdays my boss is being kinda flexible so far...but I'm not sure how long that will last...will keep it up as long as she is gracious about it and I cna even manage that.

  • I also get 12 weeks and I was off today to begin my leave. It's worth it to me to have some time to relax and prepare for baby and pamper myself before everything changes. For me, I already have a s so life is already crazy, but I did the same thing when I was pregnant with him. Life will never be the same so if you.  Can cling to a few days of getting ready, resting, even just watching movies all day....that will soon be a thing of the past!!!  GL!
  • I was able to start my 12-week FMLA leave on the first full week after my last day so I pretty much get 12 1/2 weeks.  Maybe you can do the same?  My last day was last Wed (half day for me) and my leave officially started today (Monday).  I am taking this last week to finish up any last minute stuff I need to do and work on walking and relaxing just waiting for LO to make his appearance.  Worth it to me to have the extra week before he arrives but only you can make that decision for yourself.
