Long story short, a teacher from the program I just graduated from has two attorney's in her family and I've met them in person, very very nice people. I finally got the balls to call and make an appt. I just gave the short version of everything, and I'm meeting with her this week.
I have typed out the dates and incidences of things stbxh has done that makes me think he is unfit for anything other than supervised visits. (7 pages long). I've gathered all of the current unpaid medical bills he's left me to collections with. ($2k).
As for "things" we owned "together", we really didn't have much other than a sofa, arm chair with ottoman, coffee table with 2 side tables, ($700) treadmill, a 32" tv (that he gave to his parents without asking), and kitchen appliances (oven/range, stove top microwave, fridge- $2k). Anything else was borrowed from my parents, or we had before moving in together.- About $3,500 worth of "stuff" at regular retail value- not sure about "real value" now??
He basically doesn't want to pay a dime towards the medical bills, and wants to take all of our "stuff" minus the treadmill. I'm just glad we never bought a house together, and living in a small apartment/house made it hard to buy a lot of stuff.
What else do I need to bring with me? I don't really know what a first visit is like with an attorney, or what I need to bring.
