I'm so bummed! I was wrong about the test he wants me to do. It's a hysteroscopy not a SHG. I'm bummed because this procedure is a lot more expensive. Anyway, can you tell me what it was like? Also, how much work did you have to miss? I'm wondering if I only need 1 day off or if this is a multiple day off deal.
Any info you care to share would be great. TIA!
Re: Tell me about your hysteroscopy
I've had 2, but they were more than just the hysteroscopy. Mine also had polypectomy with d/c. The first was worse than the second. I had planned to take a couple days off with the first, but ended up taking the rest of the week off.
The worst part with the second was getting the IV in (took 8 tries -- shot to numb and then the stab...finally got it the 8th try when they didn't do the numbing shot first, so it really hurt). I was ready to go back to work by day 2, but already had the time off approved so I stayed home the rest of the week.
ETA - #1 removed a lot of excess "fluff" - my lining was really thick, which is probably why the recovery took longer than the 2nd one. They were a few months apart. An additional endometrial polyp was discovered in an u/s, so I had to have the 2nd surgery.

Wow, sorry the first one was so hard.
I guess I won't know if they need to remove anything until I get there, right? I guess I'll try to schedule it when I don't have any classes so I won't have to worry about missing. Thanks!

I had 2. One to just check for polyps and one to remove them.
The first was not bad. I took a motrin 800 beforehand. It was pretty uncomfortable, but nothing horrible. It was over fairly quickly. On a scale from 1-10 I would rate it a 6- 7 for uncomfortable.
The second one that removed the polyps was ok. I was awake and only had a valium. It hurt, but I just kept breathing and the nurse was great. On a scale of 1-10 it was an 8.
DX: PCOS/Recurrent losses/MTHFR mutation (compound hetero)
5 hysteroscopies/2 surgical
3 Inject IUIs = 2 m/c's and 1 BFN
IVF #1= BFP. m/c at 7w6d. Needed 2 D&C's and scar tissue removal. Mild OHSS
IVF #2 = BFP. Severe OHSS. 4 Drainings. TWINS!
Ultrasound showed the polyps, so I didn't have an exploratory. I was put under for both of them and they were considered outpatient surgery at the hospital.

Yeah, some places put you under and send you to a hospital. My RE does them himself at the clinic. I dont like the idea of being put under so I was ok with being awake.

Mine was an operative hysteroscopy with a d&c to remove a polyp and scar tissue. They put me under, which I was grateful for! I had extremely faint cramping and was very sleepy the rest of the day, but felt fine the next day.
Good luck on yours!

I had a hystero and lap and did it as an outpatient procedure. When in, got hooked up to IV and they took me back and put me out. Afterward, the GYN (who did it) talked about what he found. Let's just say it's a good thing that someone else was there b/c I sure don't remember seeing him after "waking up". I didn't have an stitches, just tape holding the incision site closed, 1 at the bottom inside edge of my navel and the other just above my public bone. After waking up, I got dressed and was a little nauseous b/c I was dizzy when I got up and moved around. Didn't have a problem with the bottom incision, but the one in my belly button just kept bleeding. Nurse add to put a pad over it and change it again before I left. When I got home I also had to keep chancing the dressing. Got home and to bed, didn't really hurt, I was still kinda out of it.
Next morning, no problems. A little sore abs but I've had worse sore muscles from dancing or working out. The problem happened about 2 hours after being up. I had eaten breakfast, sat quietly and dangled a string for the cat when I started getting uncomfortable. I hadn't taken any meds so I figured maybe I should lay down. I was only laying down a few minutes when I started feeling cramps in my ribs( like a stitch in your side). Decided to go ahead and take some of the painkillers the doc had send home... By the time I'd gotten up and walked out to the livingroom, I was in agony!! The pain in my chest was incredible. Trying to draw breath send stabbing pain into my chest, neck and shoulder. (If I it had been on the other side, I would have been sure that I was having a heart attack.) Turns out they pump air into your abdomen during the surgery to get a clear look at everything. And it can rise and collect in other places. I had to use a breathing pump to exercise my lungs.
I had the surgery on a Friday and was told that I could go back to work the next day. However, it's a good thing that I did have the weekend to recover. Otherwise I wouldn't have been ready for work Monday.
I had one at the same time as my laparoscopy to remove my septum. I was under anesthesia though so my recovery might be different than someone who has one done in office.
Even so, I only needed that day for recovery. I was completely fine and didn't need to even take my pain pills after day two.
