Refreezing Thawed Purees...

It's a no-no, right? I'm looking through WBF.com (can we just start abbreviating that dang site? we all reference it enough!) but want to make sure I'm understanding...I made pureed pumpkin back when there were pumpkins (November, maybe) but I just froze it all in one big container, not sure what I'd use it for. Well, I'm going to use some for a chili for tomorrow and I'm wondering if I can section the rest of the puree into the ice cube trays to freeze portions for DD. If I can't/shouldn't refreeze it, could I just give it to her from the fridge for the next few days? Or should I just skip giving it to her all together and use it for cooking?

Re: Refreezing Thawed Purees...

  • I'm interested to see what everyone else has to say!  I would LOVE to be able to thaw out Ty's frozen food so I can re-puree it to make it smoother, but I've been hesitant.  I know that with a lot of foods, as long as it's thawed out in the fridge and stays cold it can be refrozen for a certain amount of time, but when giving it to a baby I'm not sure how that works!

  • What did you add to it when you pureed it?  If you added milk then no you cannot refreeze.  If you added nothing or added water then you can.  This is not on WBF.  It is from my friend who does food QC at a food plant.

Woohoo, I did water so it looks like this weekend I will be re-pureeing some veggies!

It's just plain ole pumpkin put through a food mill. It sat in the fridge for maybe a day before I got what I didn't initially use into the freezer. So yay, hopefully there's enough left over for DD.
