I will admit, I like having answers, I like structure and I like guidelines. Parenthood will likely break me of those needs. My LO started solids at 5 months and he has done well. I also pump or BF depending on what is going on, with more BF on the weekends then weekdays. I still try to pump consistently but have noticed I'm not getting as much milk as I once was, although for now it is still enough. We increased the amount of solids he is eating at lunch so he now has 1 jar of stage 2 fruit at lunch and 1 jar of stage 2 veggies at dinner and 1 tbsp of oatmeal before bed with his bottle. For now that seems to be sufficient. Not sure when we'll add a third feeding of solids, but I am trying to let him take the lead on that. He drinks 4-5 5 ounce bottles of breast milk per day and still usually wakes at least once per night but only nurses for 5-10 minutes before falling asleep. Mostly, I just want a guidebook to BF and solid foods. Intellectually, I know each child is different but where's the guidebook?
Re: Minor vent
Check carefully on your LO's bottom. Did you get the model that comes with directions? Didn't think so!
I used to be pretty uptight about ounces and intake and how many calories he's getting. Now I'm just happy if he eats a cracker or two for lunch. As he/she gets older, you'll learn to relax more about it.
There are so many books. You get different advice from different authors. Which one is right for my baby? No answer to that. So I decided against books. I admit, it is frustrating at times when DS doesn't want to eat, to nap, to do this, and that, but realized that the best that I can do is to just follow his cues. As long as he is growing well there is no room for concern. This is my new attitude and I hope to stick to it, otherwise I will just drive myself nuts. I do hope though that you find a book that you like, if that would make you feel better. GL!
