Got a flu shot today! Poll inside

I asked m/w if I should get one now or wait, based on that recent article about protection for the baby (can't remember now exactly what it said).  She said I was the second person to ask about that but that she recommended getting it now since the baby won't be going outside much during flu season and pg women are at high risk for pneumonia.

So I went ahead and got it, now my arm hurts but oh well. I am having a very good lunch today since I only gained 1/2 lb this month (after gaining 7.5 lbs last month--guess that was a growth spurt).

  • I went to go get one today and the nurse wouldn't give it to me because that type hasn't been tested in pregnant women. But the people at the company said that it was fine, so now I don't know what to do and I'm having a bad day and am really emotional about this stupid thing. It's just been a week of nothing going the way I expected it to and I'm not dealing well at this point. Sorry I vented in your post.
  • I'll lmao if someone says they're afraid of needles.

  • I'm getting mine next weekend. They were out of the preservative free ones at my last appointment.

  • Got mine last week at the minute clinic at CVS (free with my insurance!)
  • I can't find an article right now that specifies, but I think it was something like 4-8 weeks before delivery.  I know it has to be more than a month before delivery but I think the full study results determined there was a window within which protection was best...

  • It's not that I don't "believe" in flu shots...it's not like they're Santa or anything, we do know they exist, but that was the best option you had up there for me.

I asked my midwife what she would recommend.  Since I've never had the flu shot she advised against it.  I could have a bad reaction to it and it would not be ideal do have that happen during pregnancy.  Also the benefits to the baby are minimal and haven't been studied enough to determine long term effects.

  • I got mine as will DS, DH and all the grandparents.  DH was hesitant but I told him that if he gets the flu he is out of work for a few days.  If the baby gets the flu from DH, he could end up in the hospital.  That convinced him.
  • I just got mine today.  No biggie.  My arm is sore, but the needle didn't hurt.
