School and Pregnancy

Hi all! hope everyone is well! I was just wondering how many have gone to college while pregnant? I am doing this now but i am still very early in my pregnancy so right now im not having any problems. My questions come with like what if you have to miss class for a doctors appointment but the teacher dosent like you to miss class? I try to schedual my docs appointments when i dont have class but sometimes you cant control it. Also Im due at the start of the next fall semester, should i just take that semester off or is it better to try and do online classes? Anywho just wondering if anyone else has delt with this! thanks for the help

Re: School and Pregnancy

  • Hi!  I was not in school when pregnant with my son, so I can't give any advice there.  But, I would suggest not enrolling in classes during the fall and just take the semester off.  Trust me, you will need it.  I took 10 weeks off for maternity leave and could have been off longer.  You will not be getting sleep and have no schedule for a while, school - anything really - would be really difficult to take on.  Congrats!

  • Looks like we are in the same situation.  I am seven weeks now, and I should deliver at the beginning of next semester.  I have not been missing classes, but I have been tempted to because I am sick all the time.  I was planning on continuing on next semester, and just being out for a week, while my husband helps me.  I go back and fourth though, I am not sure if it would be better to take off a semester.  I think I can keep going if I just have some help.  It is a tough call.  Please stay in touch though, I would love to hear how someone else handles school as their pregnancy progresses.  Thanks,

  • I was in college my entire pregnancy. It worked out great and the teachers were very nice. Near the end of your pregnancy, it does get hard to walk from class to class and carry books, so get on campus early so you can walk slower. Also pack a lot of snacks- don't want to wear yourself out and get sick from being hungry. You can do it!!
