Carrier rec's for international travel

Dd is 12 months now and we will be traveling in May. We curruntly use a Moby which is very comfortable for me and she does well in it. I'd just like something a little simpler to put on/take off for security and on the plane and such. She would also love to see out well, so something with a good back carry or that she can face forward in would be ideal. Thanks!

Re: Carrier rec's for international travel

  • Forward facing a 15 month old will kill your back in about 3 minutes. Don't bother.

I wasn't allowed to wear my baby in flight, so be prepared that the airline may not let you use a carrier on the plane. It's ridiculous, but it's "the rules".

That said, I love my Ergo and it works well both front and back. Quick to put on, quick to get off. I'd look at a soft structured carrier if speed of on/off and in/out is the primary concern.

All of this. We did Europe twice, once at 4 months and again at 16 months. I don't even bother with a stroller. We fly a ton and I love the Ergo.

  • If you want something "simpler" than a wrap you could go with a mei tai or soft-structured carrier.

The beauty of a mei tai is that it can be shared by two adults easily.  Sharing an SSC with someone is kind of annoying--like when someone drives your car and makes adjustments to your mirrors and seat.  Smile

  • I've been back and forth to Dubai ( both at 4 months and at 25 months) with my DD twice and have LOVED the ease of the Ergo!

  • I second a SSC.  DS is 9 months old and we flew to NYC at 3 months (used ring sling and moby) and to Florida in December at 8 months old and just brought the Beco Butterfly.  The first time we flew, they made me take him out to go through security, which was a huge pain since both times he was sound asleep and had to be woken up during the ordeal.  When we flew last month, however, TSA told me I could either take him out of the carrier and walk through with no further tests, or keep him in the carrier and have my hands tested for explosives on the other side of the metal detectors.  I don't know if all airports now let you keep the baby in the carrier to go through security, but I recommend asking if you can before taking the baby out because that made things a lot easier.  Good luck!
