Rhode Island Babies

1st time single mom needs help picking ob, please!!!

Hello fellow bumpies! I am a total noob with anything baby in general. This is my first child, and I am just learning about the wonderful world of pregnancy. I really need help choosing a doctor from all the helpful rhody moms here =)

So I?ve gotten a list together and narrowed it down to 5 prospective doctors. I?m looking for one that won?t dismiss my concerns and, if I?m steadfast on something, he/she will allow it, if medically ok to do so (I have a few medical problems and am extremely concerned that a vaginal delivery will exacerbate those conditions, or if I would even be able to perform it physically in the first place with the problems that I have.) So an obstetrician that pushes natural birth on you is likely out of the question.

I guess I?m also looking for a ?better safe than sorry? doctor ? I had 2 miscarriages previously myself, along with many in my family history, as well as all the women needing to have hysterectomies for one reason or another by 35 (I?m 31). I want to be able to take all possible precautions without being dismissed as overly cautious. Lastly, I need one that isn?t too cautious about amniocentesis. One of my medical problems is a hereditary disorder which the father also carries ? which manifests itself in life threatening ways in one in four of our children. I?d like to know as soon as possible if the baby has what is called the major version of the disorder so I can prepare myself properly for it (well, as much as I can when one hears such news.)

Sorry for the rant!!!! I?m just trying to give you all a sense of what kind of doctor I?m looking for. I?ve got a list here, so please let me know if you?ve had any of them and if they do, or do not, fit what I?m looking for. However, if you do know of another doctor who fits just what I?m looking for please do give me your experience with them! The doctors I?m looking at are:

Donald A Ramos

Tolga N Kokturk

Michele R Gange

Harris M Galkin

Wayne C Clairborne

As you can see I?m almost 9 weeks along ? so I really need to choose a doctor soon so I can get in there for my first check-up. Thank you all for your help ? since this is concerning my first and possibly only child, this is one of the biggest decisions I?ve had to make in a long time. Any help you can all offer me would be so greatly appreciated!!! =)

  • I just switched to Dr. David Beitle in Providence and he is a solo practice.  I was very reluctant to pick a male dr. but he was wonderful and I think I made a great choice.

    Good Luck with everything

  • I see Dr. Jeanine Connolly at Partners in OBGYN. She is WONDERFUL, and really listens to your questions/concerns.

  • I use Dr kokturk with partners, he is AMAZING, as well as are all the other drs in the Partners OB GYN practice. I'm having a ton of complications & am really high risk, and have been in & out of the hospital and they are all great.
My little pumpkin was born at 34weeks, weighing 3lbs, due to severe IUGR & Unexplained Placental Insufficiency. He spent 49 days in the NICU. Lilypie Premature Baby tickers imageimageimageimageimageimage
  • I also go to Dr. Beitle & really like him. He's on Eddy St.

  • i am a first time mom too and i will be a mom at 18. i was very reluctant to go to a male so i decided to go to tollgate obgyn in warwick near kent hospital and i see midwives and i love them. its all about what i want for that time and they are very friendly i love deb the mid wife i see.
  • I don't know any of the doctors on your list but have been very happy with OBGYN Associates in Providence.  I usually see Dr. Bert but though my first pregnancy saw most of the doctors in the practice and generally liked them all.  They have offices in a few different towns as well.

I see Dr, Beitle too.  He's fantastic, always takes time to answer my questions, and understands my specific needs (AMA, health issues that require a c section).  I highly recommend him.

  • Dr Clairborne is a wonderful doctor. very compassionate and easy to talk to I have been going to him for 10 years now and have referred friends and family members whom he still sees.
  • See Dr. Kokturk or Dr. Connelly. Partners in Ob-Gyn is a great practice. I work with these providers at the hospital and they manage high-risk pregnancies.
  • I switched from OBGYN Associates to Partners in OBGYN. I like partners so much better. I am trying to see all of the doctors in the practice because you never know who will be there to deliver the baby. I saw Dr Kokturk today for the first time and really liked him. I really like the practice in general everyone is really nice.
