California cryobank or fair fax?

Hi! I normally post on trouble  ttc or infertility, but I thought I would ask this here as well. If you used a sperm donor or know anyone who did, did they use Cali cryobank or fairfax? Any reviews or advice about either place would be greatly appreciated. TIA

Re: California cryobank or fair fax?

  • I considered both California Cryo and Fairfax in my search. I didn't like Fairfax's website search capabilities, so I didn't get too far with them. We did choose some candidates from California Cryo and worked with La'Trice from there to help us in some of the additional services they offer (photo matching and some others). I found her to be absolutely terrific to work with. Very friendly and professional.

Ultimately, we felt that the better donor fit was one through Xytex (check them out if you haven't yet) and have been incredibly happy with their service.

P.S. Before you get your heart set on any particular donor, make sure you check with your RE about which banks they will accept. Some REs have an approved list of banks and won't consider others. Good luck!

  • Xytex was actually on the list too. Caliornia Cryobank and Fairfax were the ones that came up the most. However there seems to be a lot of bad reviews for Fairfax. Thanks, I will also look Xytex.

We used CA Cryo (CCB) and I can't agree more with Ros about La'Trice.  She was fantastic to work with on photo matching.  Very prompt in responding to emails, encouraged me to ask questions and was just overall great to work with.

We were very happy with CCB and if we ever decide to try for another child we wouldn't hesitate to go back to them.  Everything with them was easy and stress free.  Our embryologist and RE both said they prefer their patients to use CCB because they think the samples are superior, although we had a list of 10 or so banks we could use.  We had 25-30 million motile in every sample with the exception of one that had 63 million.  When we moved onto IVF from IUIs the embryologist even commented on what a great sample we had and I have found that echo'ed by the other families that conceived using our donor.

I have no experience with other cryobanks, but I would without hesitation recommend CCB.

    Good Luck!

  • We chose the donor first instead of the sperm bank.  That was our priority, so it only made sense.  We used a site called spermcenter.com, which for a nominal fee assists you in searching dozens of banks at once.  Once we made our top choice, we looked into the sperm bank and it checked out just fine as legit and decent.  So, we went with them (small bank in OR).  I say you shouldn't be limited to what a specific bank has to offer!
Childhood cancer (DH) + chemo + radiation = 0 sperm.
    LO #1 - 1 unmedicated/self-monitored IUI w/ donor sperm.
    LO #2 - 1 m/c, 2 BFNs, 4th IUI worked (unmedicated/self-monitored with new donor sperm).
    Life is beautiful!
