recovering from a c/s

If there is anything I am dreading with having DS3 here, it would have to be recovering from a c/s. I LOOOOOVE playing with DS2 and he often likes to get held. I don't mind holding him and I love snuggling with him and such, but I know I won't be able to as much when DS3 is here because I will be having a c/s. I know I will be in pain and sore for a couple weeks and from what I heard, I will not be able to carry DS2 for a couple weeks. I know he will want to get picked up at some point. Anyone have any ideas of how to recover easier and faster? How did your older child handle not being held or picked up as much?

  • With DS2's c/s, I stayed in the hospital the full amount of time I was allowed which I think helped me heal and be ready to take on boys 15 months apart. DS1 was/still is a big boy for his age. I didn't carry him the frist week home but I sat on the couch or floor a lot with him. He'd come get in my lap or come up on the couch with me. In week 2, I had no choice but to pick him up since I was alone with them. I just bent down to his level and got him to wrap his arms around my neck then lifted with my legs. I tried as much as possible not to lift him but sometimes you have no choice. AFter the 2nd week I really didn't have any limitations and was back to normal. It really was that bad. Just listen to your body and try not to over do it. Also stay on top of the meds.

  • i'm having the same fear right now and starting to consider a VBAC (I know that might not be an option for your 3rd). I am very worried about recovery.
  • It really wasnt all that bad. I could sit and cuddle him all I wanted on the couch/recliner. He really didnt get upset that I couldnt walk around and hold him in my arms. DH was home for the first 3 weeks and that was a huge help. The week he got back I was able to limit lifting and it worked fine. By week 4 I was carrying him around no prob. It probably would have been even easier if my 2nd recovery was as easy as my first, but I had a tough time with my 2nd due to complications in the hospital (unrelated to 2u2).

  • After DD I was told not to lift anything heavier than her until 6w pp.  I was lifting her in the carrier and also lifting the stroller probably by 3w pp.  You just have to be careful.  I'm also very nervous about this.  Hopefully DD will be okay without me holding her all the time at that point (she'll be 22 months).
