So DH and the boys came down with some sort of stomach bug. DH has been sick for a week now, and although Griff is on the upswing, Jack is still not. He is no longer throwing up, but he still has diarrhea. What concerns me the most is that he has barely eaten a thing in two days--he is mostly going on breast milk and water (he refuses to drink pedialyte). I am inclined to take him to the pedi, but what can she do for him? He's been sick for 4 days now. What would you do?
:-(
Re: Stomach bug--when to worry?
As long as he's making tears and urine, he's not dehydrated. Breastmilk has plenty of fat and calories to sustain him even if he's only getting a little. He may have stopped his own vomiting by limiting what he's eating.
Your pedi could send a stool culture to find out what is causing the diarrhea. That's pretty much it. They may recommend probiotics but most of those don't dissolve well in water but if you're still pumping perhaps into the breastmilk?
They may recommend a blood draw just to make sure his electrolytes aren't completely screwed up but I highly doubt it. I think breastmilk is better than pedialyte
Just call, ask and let them decide! Nobody is going to judge a momma for calling when her kiddo hasn't eaten much in 2-3 days!
I'm sorry! Sick kids are zero fun. I agree with Taytee- if you'll feel better calling and having him seen, do it. But I also think it's okay if you don't. As long as he's drinking and having wet diapers, I wouldn't be overly concerned.
Get well soon, Jack!
