What is your toddler's favorite bath toy?

I need to replace some of DS's bath toys due to the fact that I can't properly clean them enough to prevent mildew.  We stopped using the squirties a while back since they would get icky black gunk in them from residual water.  So those are not an option for us anymore, but any other fun toys that are easy to clean would be great.  He loves his tea cup and tea pot, so we will keep those.  We also have some foam letters/numbers.  Any other ideas?  TIA!

  • DS LOVES bath crayons!!!! and also these tab things that you throw in teh water to change the color.  he gets to pick which color he wants his water to practice his colors.  They don't stain the tub at all, I forget what brand they are but they came from amazon

  • the Yookidoo Flow N' Fill Spout is definitely Warner's favorite bath toy. This thing is awesome...it basically keeps water flowing so he can keep filling up and pouring out cups, but you don't need to keep the faucet running.

the only thing you have to be careful about is making sure that it's off once the water drains out of the tub. I always double check ours after bath time is over.

  • Bath crayons, markers and soap paint are big. So are balls, bath stickers, foam letters, cups and dickies. We have a star that shoots up a fountain and that has lights that DS loves. It goes through batteries fast so I don't use it everytime, but when it makes an appearance, oh the shrieks of joy.
  • Target has the colored bath drops--they are made by Crayola and DD loves them as well!

We have the same problem with squirt toys. We haven't eliminated them entirely, but have found that you can get some at the dollar store (along with some other cheap water toys) and we'll often use them in the tub and then just replace them when they get gross. I'm not a big fan of the "buy cheap junk and throw it away" approach to toys, but it works well for bath toys, and we also use visits to the dollar store to teach about money and shopping choices. (this is how I justify it in my mind, at least)

DD also brings some of her fisher price little people in the tub, and we have an assortment of sponges, washclothes, cups, etc. that get used frequently too.

  • DD loves Solo cups.  LOL.

Here are some of the color change tablets PP's are talking about  This brand is made in the USA... I'm not sure if the Crayola ones are.

Maybe a silly question... but, have you tried running his bath toys through the dishwasher every couple of weeks?  We've started doing that, and it has cut down on the number of toys we've had to throw away.

This spout is hands down DS's fave tub toy.  For his birthday he got some cars that are dirty and when you get them wet the dirt "washes" off, I am not sure where they are from but they are a pretty big hit.  These aren't them exactly but close:

I was considering doing just that.  But really the toys he had were dollar store type toys he got as gifts and I thought they might not hold up in the dishwasher. So I'd rather invest in some decent toys that don't have holes in them and just try to keep them clean by scrubbing or in the dishwasher.

Thanks for the ideas, everyone!  I also just found a water flute at PBK.  Looks like fun!

Be careful you don't get ripped off... they often resell stuff under their name - like the iSeeMe books (which you can get cheaper at the Iseeme website.)

For example, these PBK "tub tunes" are by the same maker as these.   Not sure what the PBK kids ones were priced at... but, I bet they were more expensive than $11!

  • Good point, Chia.  I think the water flutes are Alex brand.  But they were actually on clearance for $9 or so and I had a gift card, so it worked out. Big Smile

     Yes  awesome!

  • I've never heard of water flutes...Warner would go nuts over these! I can't order them fast enough!! :-)

    Thanks!!

(of course, now he'll really never want to get out of the tub!)
