Toddlers: 24 Months+

PT regression

So my boys are just now two. We started PTing them a little over a month ago and they seemed to do really well. We had occasional accidents, of course, but had many accident free days between the two of them. Over the last few days, though, they seem to have started to have a ton of accidents. Today we had just as many accidents as successes. I am getting so frustrated. If we were just starting to train I would say, well I guess they're not ready and would stop and wait a while, because they are young. But they had been doing so well for a while that I'm guessing this is just a phase. No new stressors in their life that I know of.  Any advice or experiences?

Re: PT regression

  • Are they in underwear all day everyday?  I work PT and the days I work DH is home with the kids.  DD PT right at 2, but DH was nervous about her being in underwear when she was home with him so on his days she was in pull ups and even though most days she would go all day with a dry pull up on my days I started to have some accidents here and there.  When DH agreed to go to underwear we had no issues.

Have they had any illnesses recently?  At the same time she also had a cold, which I think contributed to the accidents because since she wasn't feeling well I think she just wasn't paying as much attention to when she had to go.

If not, its probably just a phase.  If they have more days w/out accidents then they do with then I would just keep up with it, but have them go to the potty every 30-60 min for a few days and then gradually stretch out to longer intervals and I'm sure they'll do fine.
