Name Trey for a boy who is not a III???

DH and I both like the name Trey for a boy, but I have always been under the impression that Trey was a nickname for a child who was a third.  What do you ladies think about using it as first name for a boy who is not a third? I am concerned people will think it is very odd.   LOL....this will be our third, but that is beside the point.

If you like it, use it - who cares if he is not a third?? I presonally don't like it - sounds preppy ... or I think of tray, like serving tray. But, it's not my child!! Use the name you and H love, just wanted to give my opinion.

As a teacher I've seen plenty of boys named Trey who are not a third.

The only Trey I know IRL is not a III.  I think it is a possibility for a nn but is definitely a stand alone name.

The only Trey I know is not a third.  I didn't know it was a NN until I came here.

I never even knew it was a nn for a 3rd. So obviously I think it's fine haha. But it's nms anyway.

Love it!  We briefly considered using it, but decided against it because (1) Trey is the lead singer of Phish - a band we see often; and (2) my bosses son goes by Trey (nn since he is a 3rd) and it felt weird to us to also use it.
