Martin Lee?

We have a last name that starts with "M", so my husband really wants to have "M" for the first name and Lee is his father's middle name.  He thinks it sounds distinguished, but I'm a bit concerned it sounds too much like a Civil War name.  Any thoughts?

Re: Martin Lee?

  • When said out loud it sounds an awful lot like Martini...

  • I think it's ok. You'll hardly ever say just the first and middle names together, so I wouldn't worry about it sounding like martini.

The only thing that would give me pause is that the initials would be MLM, which is an abbreviation for multi-level marketing.

  • I'm not a fan of alliteration, but Martin is a name that has really been growing on me recently.  I really like it.

Lee is okay, it is a nice way to honor his dad.  I prefer more syllables, but I wouldn't associate it as a Civil War name.

  • My maiden name is Martin and I've always loved the thought of using it as a first name. Every adult man named Martin I've ever known has been successful and is usually very intelligent, so I consider it a "professional"-sounding name. The downside of using it as a first name (to me, anyway), is the fairly high likelihood that someone would shorten it to Marty, which I absolutely hate...I wouldn't associate Martin Lee with a Civil War name at all.
