Belly button stink

DS has the stinkiest belly button.  He still has the piece of cord attached and it's slowly shriveling and should fall off any day now. But it seriously smells and is goopy.  We even took him to the dr yesterday b/c we were so concerned and the nurseline suggested he be seen.  But they said it looks and smells totally normal.

I guess I didn't remember DD having such a stinky belly button.  But in all reality it is dying tissue so I don't know why I expected it to have no smell.  I was actually concerned that it was my pp pads and bleeding that I was smelling and I was so embarassed b/c I was changing my pads and bathing...lol

Anyone else's baby's belly button smell totally catch them offguard?

Re: Belly button stink

  • E's doesn't stink, but it keeps bleeding and oozing stuff even though the actual cord fell off over a week ago.  At our pedi appointment today the nurse practitioner put some silver nitrate on it to help dry it up/heal it.

  • My little guys was stinky for the first week home. His pedi said if it looks wet to dab rubbing alcohol on it and let it get lots of air. I had him hang out in his diaper while he slept between feedings and that helped a lot!
